DivX to DVD in 5 easy steps

Ok I've knocked up this quick guide on converting your Divx files to DVD so you can play them on your standard DVD player or games console (Xbox or PS2). It's actually a really simple process and only requires one freeware application. So far every Divx i've converted to DVD has worked fine on standard DVD players as well as Xbox and PS2.

Step 1 - Install Avi2DVD

AVI2DVD is a freeware application available from divx.trustfm.com.ru, you need to download it and intall it on your PC. Once you've got it installed open the applcation and you should see the screen below.

AVI2DVD First Screen

Step 2 - Load the Avi(Divx)

Click the button that says "Load Avi/ogm/mkv", navigate the file chooser and find your Divx file. once you've chosen the file make sure the the aspect ratio radio button is set correctly.

AVI2DVD Aspect Ratio Settings

If you know that you source Divx is interlaced then check the "interlaced source" if your not sure i'd try checking the box as it is more likely that it is interlaced.

Step 3 - Choose the DVD output settings

Click the tab at the top that says "Step 2 Output" and make sure that the output radio button is set to DVD or SVCD. The audio bitrate should ideally be set around 224 - 320 but you can experiment with this setting to see if you can get a better sound quality. If you wish to create an ISO of the DVD ready for burning you can check the "Make ISO" box, but to be honest if doesn't make that much difference if your using something like Nero as you can simply choose DVD Video and drage the Video_ts straight accross. Also choosing to make an ISO requires double the free hard disk space ;)

You'll need to choose a Disk Size as well, this will most likely be DVD (DVD-5 4.7GB).

AVI2DVD Output Settings

There's a few other options on this screen that are self explanatory e.g. Pal NTSC Conversion, Chapters and choosing the output directory for the DVD files.

Step 4 - DVD Encoder Settings

Ok now you need to click the tab that says "Step 3 Encoders" ok here the easiset encoder to choose is HCEnc, Profile can be set to Best, Good, Normal and Fast. The higher the quality the longer the encoding will take so basically the choice is yours depending on your computers processing power or your patience. Now click the large button that says "Add Job". The job will then appear in "Job Queue" as shown below.

Step 5 - GO!

Right thats it, all you need to do is click the Go Button. During the conversion various DOS prompts and other applications will pop-up as AVI2DVD uses a number of other freeware applications. Once the encoding is finished you'll have an Audio_ts and Video_Ts folder and if you checked "Make ISO" you'll also have an ISO ready for burning.
